DR Andrew j. HAYDUKE
“Plastic surgery epitomizes the marriage of art and science. Artistically performed plastic surgery can be a powerful weapon against the physical inevitabilities of aging and the ‘less than desirable’ physical features you feel mother nature may have handed you. Plastic surgery should ideally achieve tasteful, natural-looking, subtle, and effective rejuvenation that appropriately compliments your true inner beauty.” –AJH
Dr. Hayduke is a board certified plastic surgeon whose practice focuses on aesthetic (cosmetic) surgery. His practice niche is cosmetic plastic surgery for the most discerning clientele of Beverly Hills, Southern California, and the world. His boutique cosmetic surgery practice evolved from years of “word of mouth” referrals rather than from outright television, radio, internet or print advertising. His clients primarily originate as direct referrals from other doctors or from prior happy patients from around the globe.
Dr. Hayduke is an active member of the most elite society of board certified plastic surgeons who specialize in cosmetic surgery, known as The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He was listed as a “Top Doctor” in plastic surgery by U.S. News and World Report, where his selection was made based on nominations from other doctors (peers) and reviewed by an independent physician led research team. He has been featured in the national edition of The New York Times as one of the “Top Cosmetic Doctors in the Nation.” He has been recognized as one of “America’s Top Plastic Surgeons” by an independent Washington D.C. based consumer’s research organization. Dr. Hayduke was also repeatedly chosen as the recipient of the “Patients’ Choice Award” based on the quality and consistency of his reviews from actual patients. Dr. Hayduke has served several terms as the Section Chief of Plastic Surgery at a Southern California medical center.
Dr. Hayduke was born and raised in southeastern Michigan. He was awarded a four-year merit scholarship and pursued undergraduate studies in biology. He was active in molecular biology research, received multiple research awards, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences (summa cum laude). He earned a perfect “straight A” result (4.0 GPA) for the pre-medical core science curriculum classes. He was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society for his academic accomplishments. He decided to stay in Michigan and attend medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine (Class of 1995).
After graduation from medical school, Dr Hayduke chose to pursue a general surgery residency in order to build a solid foundation as a surgeon. He completed five-years of general surgery training at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. During this vigorous training, Dr. Hayduke participated in some of the most technically demanding procedures imaginable, including the Whipple procedure for pancreatic cancer, kidney transplantation, and emergency ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm repairs.
After graduating from his general surgery residency, Dr. Hayduke was chosen from an extremely competitive pool of applicants for formal plastic surgery training at the Ohio State University Medical Center. This plastic surgery residency program meets the exceedingly high standards of full accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. During his plastic surgery residency, Dr. Hayduke had extensive exposure to some of the most advanced cosmetic surgical procedures performed today. He also trained in intricate reconstructive techniques, including the TRAM flap procedure for post-mastectomy breast reconstruction, corrective techniques for disfiguring facial burns, and microsurgical procedures (utilizing an operative microscope) for salvage of fingers/arms after traumatic amputations (replantation surgery). His training included reconstruction of birth malformations including correction of cleft lip/palate and major ear deformities at Columbus’ Children’s Hospital.
All these years of intense training led to the ultimate accomplishment of board certification by The American Board of Plastic Surgery. This is the only board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) for credentialing in the full spectrum of plastic and cosmetic surgery of the face and body. It is very difficult (if not impossible) for the non-medical general public to decipher which “board certification” claims are truly meaningful. We highly suggest that you take the time to click on the following link to How To Pick A Plastic Surgeon for their more detailed explanation of this very confusing issue. When you visit the website of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and click on “member boards” – please pay particular attention to the fact that there are no member boards that contain the word “cosmetic”. Be advised that boards that contain the word “cosmetic” are not recognized or approved by the ABMS. The importance of this concept cannot be overemphasized. What sets Dr. Hayduke apart from the many self-appointed “cosmetic surgeons” in Southern California is that he is a true formally trained board certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Hayduke served as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Eisenhower Medical Center. Dr. Hayduke is also a member (fellow) of the American College of Surgeons (FACS)
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery “Certificate of Advanced Education in Cosmetic Surgery” is a certificate designed to recognize members who demonstrate an exceptional level of commitment to their continuing education in cosmetic plastic surgery. The requirements for the certificate are fulfilled by earning 150 hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits in cosmetic surgery over a three year period. Dr. Hayduke feels that keeping up with the most current cosmetic surgery techniques is paramount and he is one of a select few plastic surgeons in the nation that has achieved this advanced education certificate in cosmetic surgery.
As part of The American Board of Plastic Surgery maintenance of board certification requirements, modern board certified plastic surgeons (originally board certified in 1995 or later) must pass a national standardized written examination every 10 years of practice to maintain certification. Dr Hayduke achieved a 100% correct score on this examination. Click here to view Dr. Hayduke’s exam performance report. If a plastic surgeon was originally board certified before 1995, they were “grandfathered” from this requirement and are actually not required to take this national maintenance examination every 10 years. Dr. Hayduke was originally board certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery in 2003 and then re-certified with a perfect score in 2012.
Out of the entire broad field of plastic surgery, Dr. Hayduke’s true passion and focus lies in cosmetic surgery . His skills in cosmetic surgery are evidenced by the multiple approaches he offers for facelift surgery, eyelid rejuvenation, eyebrow lifts, breast lifts, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, liposuction and rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) – just to name a few. The technique chosen is always individually tailored to the client’s particular anatomy, desires, and aesthetic goals. There is no doubt that properly performed facelift surgery can be an extremely powerful technique to turn back the clock of facial aging. Dr Hayduke believes that facelift and necklift surgery should specifically avoid the “over-pulled” or “tight” artificial look that is unfortunately commonly seen today. Dr. Hayduke approaches facelift surgery by tastefully lifting and rejuvenating both the outer skin layer as well as the deeper soft tissue layer that has succumbed to the unrelenting forces of gravity and time. Dr. Hayduke offers the use of an endoscope (miniature camera) to perform eyebrow/forehead lifts via short scalp incisions to produce less conspicuous and strategically located scars. With today’s modern browlift fixation devices, Dr. Hayduke believes that the results of endoscopic browlift procedures are far superior to the older “out-of-date” methods. He also offers the use of an endoscope for breast augmentation via the underarm (axillary) approach for those clients who prefer to have the scars located away from the aesthetic unit of the breast itself (actresses, models, etc). Of course, the classic approaches to breast augmentation via the periareolar (nipple) and inframammary (breast fold) incisions are also offered. The particular technique chosen depends on his client’s personal preference and their unique anatomy (breast size, shape, etc).
In addition to offering modern “state-of-the-art” techniques in cosmetic surgery, Dr. Hayduke also performs the classical approaches to all cosmetic procedures, including: the coronal forehead lift and traditional facelift techniques that have stood the true test of time. Dr. Hayduke always strives to pay particular attention to the subtleties and finer details of surgical technique since he believes this can often make the difference between an average result and an impressive aesthetic triumph. He enjoys taking on the challenges of “revisional” or “corrective” surgery for clients who unfortunately had a suboptimal result with their first cosmetic procedure performed elsewhere. Although his primary practice focus is cosmetic surgery, Dr. Hayduke also chooses to be active in reconstructive plastic surgery for the tremendous personal satisfaction he gains from helping this group of patients reshape their lives after breast cancer, trauma, birth malformations or disfiguring burns.
